Molten Chocolate Cake
Molten Chocolate Cake is a rich and indulgent dessert with a soft, chocolatey cake exterior and a warm, gooey chocolate center. Also known as a lava cake, this elegant treat is surprisingly easy to prepare and perfect for special occasions or whenever you want a decadent chocolate dessert. Ingredients
115 g dark chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 large eggs
2 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp butter, for greasing
1 tbsp cocoa powder, for dusting
Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). Grease four small ramekins with butter and lightly dust them with cocoa powder.
- Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over a pot of gently simmering water. Stir until smooth, then set aside to cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, egg yolks, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.
- Gently fold in the flour until just incorporated. Avoid overmixing.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the centers are still soft and slightly jiggly.
- Remove from the oven and let the cakes rest for 1 minute.
- Carefully invert each ramekin onto a serving plate and gently lift it away.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with vanilla ice cream if desired.
