Lumpiang Shanghai
Lumpiang Shanghai is a popular Filipino appetizer made with seasoned ground pork, carrots, onions, and garlic wrapped in thin spring roll wrappers and fried until golden and crispy. Crunchy on the outside and savory and flavorful on the inside, these bite-sized rolls are perfect for parties, family gatherings, or as a delicious side dish served with sweet chili sauce or banana ketchup.

Ingredients
500 g ground pork
1 cup carrots, finely chopped
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
25–30 lumpia wrappers
2 cups cooking oil, for frying
Sweet chili sauce or banana ketchup for serving
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, carrots, onion, garlic, egg, soy sauce, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly combined.
- Place one lumpia wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Put about 1 tablespoon of the filling near one edge of the wrapper.
- Roll the wrapper tightly over the filling, fold in the sides, and continue rolling into a compact cylinder.
- Moisten the edge of the wrapper with a little water to seal. Repeat with the remaining filling and wrappers.
- Heat the cooking oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Carefully place the lumpia in the hot oil in batches. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Fry for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the lumpia from the oil and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
- Cut the lumpia into smaller pieces if desired.
- Serve hot with sweet chili sauce or banana ketchup and enjoy your crispy and delicious Lumpiang Shanghai!
